Comments: Discovered in 1781, M101 is the largest and brightest member of a group of galaxies that is located 25 million light years away.
Numerous red HII regions pepper the spiral arms of this galaxy and are easily visible in this image.
Other galaxies found in the field include 12.5mag lenticular NGC5473, 14.2mag spiral NGC5477, 14.9mag lenticular MCG9-23-25 and 15.2mag spiral MCG9-23-23.
